Day 188

Guess what tomorrow is? If you said that tomorrow is the one year anniversary of this blog, that is correct! It seems like an awfully long time ago when I look back now. Today's photo is of the insides of a geode that was cracked in half. Geodes are normal enough looking on the outside, but inside there's beautiful crystal formations of all different colors. Where I'm from, nearly all the geodes found are a white/blue, but this particular geode is half white/blue and half yellow/brown. I added a light Orton effect to bring out all the natural luster of the colors, and a slight dark edge to draw the eye into the center of the image and away from the sides.

Day 154

Is he adorable or what? His older brother taught him to crinkle and almost close his eyes when he smiles for pictures, something that I'm not very grateful for. But it worked out in this one, and I loved the rock background with the leaves strewn here and there.

Day 152

 We got a lot of rain last night, so this morning I woke to mud, fog, and dripping plants. The rocks on our lane looked a lot more interesting once the dust was washed off, and I thought this green cottonwood leaf had a nice contrast to the earthy monotones of the gravel. To edit, I toyed with some of the effects, but finally settled on a faded Dusk filter as I liked the way it worked with the browns in the leaf and the grays of the rock.

Day 139

For school I am currently reading "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." For those of you who don't know, it is about a boy who lives on a raft on the Mississippi River with a run away slave named Jim. To show my understanding of the novel I will be making a creative project featuring photos I take. Today I took my little brother to portray Huck and got some shots in the river. I also got this shot for today's post. I cropped it down to give a more dramatic view, and added a faded Holga effect to add age and artistic quality to the image.

Day 114

Today's photo I took while lying on the ground looking down our lane. I wanted to get the texture and shapes of the rocks, and the lines drawing your eye back into the photo down the lane. I applied a slight Dusk effect to give it more warmth of color.

Day 87

This is one of the many waterfalls in one of the habitats at the zoo. It looks so lush and beautiful, don't you think? I wish the water was  little more in focus, but it was moving very fast.

Day 80

I went down to the river today. I liked the bright green plants and trees and the contrast between them and the gray rock, water, and sky.

Day 69

I was going through some of the photos from last weekend at the livestock judging contest, and I noticed this close up of one of the walls in Kildee Hall. I love the texture of the different sizes and shapes of rock used.

Day 48

It's finally starting to look like springtime here. These are some of the first little spots of green grass just starting to peek out.
