Day 46
This morning it was one of the first nice days we've had for a while, and I couldn't let the beautiful early morning light got to waste. My little brother was playing outside, and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for a good portrait.

Day 45
Here's another photo from the gymnastics championship. Tomorrow I'll try to post something different, but today I wanted to share at least one more gymnast picture. It makes me dizzy just watching the gymnasts do fancy flips like this while on the narrow balance beam, but I suppose it must be fun or they wouldn't be doing it right? I used the focal soften, focal B&W, and the dark edges effects on this photo.

Day 43
Here's another photo in my gymnastics championship series. Shown here is the Oklahoma team congratulating one of their gymnasts after a successful uneven bars routine. Oklahoma did manage to squeeze out the win with Iowa State a close second.

Day 42
On Saturday I had an interview in Ames on the Iowa State University campus. After my interview my dad took me to watch the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship being held in the
Hilton Coliseum. I took over 200 photos, so I'll probably be posting more. This is my favorite one so far. I used the Focal Soften and the Focal B&W on picmonkey.com to make the gymnast the focal point of the photo.

Day 41
I think I've just been in the mood for macro lately. Here is another macro shot, this one of a spool of ribbon.

Day 40
This is a macro of a towel. I liked the texture and pattern, and just wanted to play with my macro feature on my camera for a while today.

Day 39
Today I forgot my camera, so I decided to bring out this macro photo I took last Christmas. It's a close up of an ornament on my family's Christmas tree. I like the texture, lighting, and composition of this photo.

Day 38
I felt like doing another macro image, and also wanted interest and a focal point. So I decided to photograph the purse my parents gave me for my birthday. It amazes me how much detail is put into one of these purses.

Day 37
Yesterday I had to go out and photograph my sister, mom, and dad working in the bee yard. I think the photo would be improved if the white jackets did not have as much glare, and if the small trees were not in front of the beekeepers. I think the background of pine trees is my favorite aspect of this photo. I added the Holga effect to minimize the busyness that the many colors in the photo caused.

Day 36
I actually took this photo last summer of my horse's eye. I had a doctor appointment today, so I didn't have time to go take a new photo, so I decided to show you this older one.

Day 35
Today I went over to the river and photographed the seagulls. They are quite hard to photograph, as they keep moving and suddenly swooping down. I wish the photos I had taken of them against the brilliant blue sky would have turned out, but I might have to try that again tomorrow.

Day 34
Today I asked my two year old brother to pose for me. He wanted to at first, but he quickly lost interest. I managed to snap this photo as he was trying to escape. I liked this photo when I first took it, but then while I was editing it I noticed the hot spot on his cheek from the sunlight, the window ledge in the background, the way the top of his head was stretched out and bigger than the bottom, and I started second guessing whether or not I should post this picture. But I think after I added the Dusk effect on picmonkey.com and cropped it a little, it turned out to be an interesting photo.

Day 32

Day 31
I think this photo is pretty interesting. It's of my hand (my left one, since I'm operating the camera with my right). I liked the original photo, but when I put it in black and white I loved it. The original photo was kind of, not really busy, but the color was distracting. In the original you were looking at the pinkish/whitish skin color, and not the details I think this black and white version displays.

Day 29
To remind myself of warmer times, I've brought out this photo of my Grandpa's lane taken when the snow was melting. It's supposed to get warmer here later this week, so hopefully it will stay that way.

Day 28
So today instead of taking pictures of the brand new snow I took some of the "wildlife" in my yard. That basically consisted of my dog, chickens, and ducks. This hen was the only one who decided to cooperate I added a black and white effect, but faded it so that traces of the original colors remained.

Day 27
Here is yet another winter wonderland. I was hoping the snow would melt so I could take some different photos, but we're supposed to get more tomorrow. I have an idea for tomorrow's post to change things up a little, but we'll have to see if it turns out.

Day 26
I'm keeping with my theme of black and white winter wonderland shots. I think the reason I do like making these photos black and white is 1. There isn't much color to start with, and 2. the color only distracts from the content of the image. This old barn used to hold sows (female pigs) when they were farrowing (giving birth).
